June's Monthly Resource Guide
Conversation starters, book recommendations, games to try and resources!
Welcome to June’s Monthly Resource Guide - your one stop for Questions to Ask, Things to Read, Games to Play, and Resources You Need.
I was just a guest on a podcast last week, and one of my favorite topics came up: the power of board games.
Board games are such an under-utilized tool. I stand by my belief that they will teach more than any workbook, because embedded in the game are so many life skills that gifted individuals need practice with: frustration tolerance, how to lose, adaptive thinking, cooperation…
(I have an entire article about the power of board games)
But what made me reflect on this now is that so often with summer, we find ourselves pressured to do what we can to have a successful summer. We look toward the camps, the scroll-stopping science experiments, the thick books and we wonder if that’s what we should be doing for OUR gifted kid.
But just like huge life lessons lie in playing a round of Uno, so much thinking can develop from discussions at the dinner table or silly games played in the car.
So take a breath, wherever you are. And give yourself permission to let your gifted child (and yourself!) enjoy the break from routine, from constant expectations, from pressure.
